Watch: Waterfall, lightning, thunder in UAE as heavy rains lash six emirates
Lightning, waterfalls, heavy rains, water-clogged streets and alerts to stay away from areas that could see flash floods … It’s all happening in the UAE amid peak summer. The National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) has reported heavy rains in Fujairah; Umm Al Quwain, Dubai’s Hatta; Sharjah’s Wadi Al Helo, Khor Fakkan and Kalba; Ras Al Khaimah’s Shawka; and parts of Abu Dhabi on Wednesday morning.
Check out these gorgeous waterfalls gushing off mountains in Fujairah as seen in a video posted by weather-related social media handle Storm Centre:
The handle shared multiple videos showing rains lashing the emirates. The video below shows rain-drenched lush greenery in Khor Fakkan’s Rafisa Dam:
A video shared by the NCM shows dark clouds in the east coast light up with lightning and thunder:
Yet another posted by Storm Centre shows a flooded street:
The NCM also shared another video showing cars in water logged streets.
The NCM has predicted “unstable weather” for today, with rainy conditions bringing down temperatures significantly. The lowest temperature dipped to 17°C as reported from Ras Al Khaimah’s Jebel Jais.
The authority has advised residents to stay away from areas that could see water accumulate quickly.
It has also issued an alert for convective clouds in most parts of the country:
Cloudy conditions with chances of rainfall in some areas are forecast for the next four days.
An NCM official had earlier explained to Khaleej Times that rains have been more frequent and heavier in the UAE this summer. Summer rains are not uncommon as the country experiences monsoon low pressure from India. The emirates could see up to three days of rainfall a week during summer, the official had said.
