Three countries qualify men’s teams to Paris 2024 Olympic Games

ANTALYA: Mexico, Chinese Taipei and Great Britain filled the recurve men’s team podium at the final world qualification tournament in Antalya, Türkiye today, securing Olympic quota places for their countries.

Three team quotas were reserved to the top three nations in this event.

Mexico booked their spot when they beat Great Britain 6-2 in their semifinal but were forced to come back after losing the opening set. Bruno Martinez Wing struggled at first but bounced back, dropping three 10s and a nine in his final four arrows. With the women’s team already qualified, Mexico will have a full team (3 men, 3 women) for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, their third full Olympic team in history (Munich 1972, London 2012).

Chinese Taipei also confirmed their ticket to Paris in the semifinals but in easier fashion, sweeping past Germany 6-0. Lin Zih-Siang, Tai Yu-Hsuan and Tang Chih-Chun handled the pressure far better than their opponents, only dropping a sub nine shot once. Chinese Taipei will now have a full team (3 men, 3 women) going to Paris after their women’s team qualified yesterday.

The third and last team quota place was awarded in the third-place match, with Great Britain beating Germany 5-3.

Conor Hall, Tom Hall and Alex Wise beat favourites Brazil in the quarterfinals and held their nerve well in what was a tense affair, shooting three tight nines in the final end to pip Germany and confirm a full Great Britain team for Paris following yesterday’s success for the women.

The last chance to qualify a full team of three athletes for  the Paris 2024 Olympic Games is now on the world ranking list issued on 24 June – top two nations per gender not yet qualified.

Archery at the Paris 2024 Olympics will run from 25 July to 4 August on the Esplanade de Invalides and award five gold medals in total – recurve men’s individual, recurve women’s individual, recurve men’s team, recurve women’s team and recurve mixed team.
