Former Minister of Information, Minority Affairs, Social Protection, and President Arts Council of Pakistan Karachi, Muhammad Ahmed Shah, spoke during the inauguration ceremony of the Sindh Theatre Festival 2024. He remarked, “Today, we are inaugurating the Sindh Theatre Festival 2024 in Sukkur.
The festival will continue at the Arts Council of Pakistan Sukkur for the entire week. We organized the historic Pakistan Literature Festival in Sukkur, which extended its reach to America. The response we received from Sukkur was commendable,
More than two hundred thousand individuals participated in the Pakistan Literature Festival in Sukkur in which 95 percent of youth was included.
Shah said It is well-known that Sukkur often receives negative news. However, when you contribute, the city flourishes. Sukkur has a significant history. Hundreds of children are learning art and music at the Sukkur Arts Council. Tremendous talent is emerging from Sukkur. Pakistan is being divided based on language, religion, and ethnicity, but we are connecting through culture.
At the government level, institutions are not actively working to connect the country. Pakistan is a federation, and there is a need to activate cultural institutions nationwide. People should take ownership of their city. Our goal is not to become big brothers; we will provide every possible assistance where needed. Journalists have reported that the condition of Sukkur Library is poor. We will strive for the elite and ministers to take ownership here.
Shah further said Remember, if culture and civilization remain, you will remain. Hundreds of youth are pursuing education at universities in Sukkur. It is necessary to involve youth in positive activities. Our effort is for this city to return to its former glory. The Sukkur Arts Council has set a precedent in all arts councils. Last year, five Sindhi and five Urdu dramas were presented. This time, we have ensured the promotion of the Sindhi language. President Mumtaz Bukhari of the Sukkur Arts Council emphasized that the primary objective of the Sindh Theatre Festival is to provide a platform for local artists. We extend an invitation to artists to participate, as each day of the week-long festival will showcase theater productions centered on various social and cultural themes. Before departing, President Arts Council of Pakistan Karachi Muhammad Ahmed Shah took stock of the ongoing developmental projects at the Sukkur Arts Council. He also distributed certificates among the first batch of students in the Fine Arts department, at the Sukkur Arts Council and greatly encouraged their artistic endeavors.
